Beta notice. Millésime is currently in invite-only beta. These Terms of Service are effective as of the date above.
1. Who we are and what these Terms cover
Millésime ("Millésime", "we", "us", "our") is a digital platform and companion application for Champagne enthusiasts, providing bottle discovery, cellar tracking, tasting notes, community features, and related services available at millesimeapp.com and through our mobile application.
Millésime is currently operated by:
Luca Rederer Heusteigstr. 116 70180 Stuttgart Germany Email: privacy@millesimeapp.com
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Millésime. By creating an account, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you may not use Millésime.
1a. Beta service
Millésime is currently in invite-only beta. During the beta phase:
- features may change, be removed, or behave unexpectedly;
- data including cellar entries, tasting notes, and account information may in exceptional circumstances be lost or reset, though we will make reasonable efforts to prevent this;
- service availability is not guaranteed; and
- these Terms and our pricing may change as the product develops.
By using Millésime during the beta phase, you acknowledge and accept these limitations. We will notify you before transitioning from beta to general availability.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years of age to use Millésime. Millésime is a platform about Champagne, an alcoholic beverage. By creating an account, you confirm that you are 18 years of age or older and that you are legally permitted to consume and discuss alcoholic beverages in your country of residence.
We reserve the right to terminate any account where we have reason to believe the user is under 18.
If you are located in a jurisdiction where the minimum legal age for consuming or engaging with content about alcoholic beverages is higher than 18, you must meet that higher age requirement to use Millésime.
2a. Geographic restrictions and local laws
Millésime is a content and community platform about Champagne. We do not sell, ship, or distribute alcohol. However, because our platform displays information about alcoholic beverages and may contain links to third-party wine retailers, access to some or all features of Millésime may be restricted or prohibited in certain countries or regions under local law.
You are solely responsible for ensuring that your use of Millésime complies with the laws of your country or region of residence, including any laws relating to the consumption, promotion, or discussion of alcoholic beverages. If you are located in a jurisdiction where accessing content about alcoholic beverages is prohibited, you must not use Millésime.
United States users: The legal drinking age in the United States is 21. If you are a resident of the United States, you must be at least 21 years of age to use Millésime.
Affiliate links: The buy button feature connects you with third-party wine retailers. The availability of alcohol for purchase and delivery varies significantly by country, state, and region. We make no representation that any product available through an affiliate link is legally available for purchase or delivery in your location. You are responsible for ensuring that any purchase you make from a third-party retailer complies with the laws of your jurisdiction.
We reserve the right to restrict access to Millésime or specific features from certain geographic regions at our discretion and without notice.
3. Your account
3.1 Registration
You may register using Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In, or a magic link sent to your email address. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and for all activity that occurs under your account.
3.2 Username
Your username is a pseudonym of your choosing. You are not required to use your legal name. You may not choose a username that impersonates another person, infringes a trademark, or is offensive or misleading.
3.3 Account security
You must notify us immediately at privacy@millesimeapp.com if you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account. We are not liable for any loss arising from unauthorised use of your account where you have failed to keep your credentials secure.
3.4 One account per person
You may not create multiple accounts. If we detect duplicate accounts, we reserve the right to merge or terminate them.
4. Content you create
4.1 Your content, your ownership
You retain ownership of all content you create on Millésime, including tasting notes, cellar entries, pop events, profile information, and any photos you upload ("Your Content").
4.2 Licence you grant us
By posting content on Millésime, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, sublicensable licence to store, display, reproduce, distribute, and use Your Content for the purposes of operating and improving Millésime, including:
- displaying your public content to other users and producer partners;
- including anonymised and aggregated versions of your content in producer analytics, B2B data products, and intelligence reports;
- using your content to train and improve our internal recommendation and quality-scoring systems.
This licence does not allow us to sell your individual, identifiable content to third parties. The licence continues for as long as your content remains on the platform and terminates when you delete the content or your account, subject to the retention provisions in our Privacy Policy.
4.3 Content standards
All content you post on Millésime — including tasting notes, bottle pop events, comments, direct messages, questions, profile information, and any photos or images — must comply with the following standards.
Prohibited content. You may not post content that:
- is false, fabricated, or intentionally misleading about a wine, producer, or other person;
- infringes the intellectual property rights of any third party, including copyrighted images, logos, or branded materials you do not have the right to use;
- is defamatory, threatening, harassing, or abusive toward any individual or organisation;
- contains hate speech, discriminatory language, or content that degrades any person or group on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other characteristic;
- contains profanity, obscene language, or sexually explicit material;
- depicts or promotes violence, self-harm, or illegal activity;
- contains spam, unsolicited commercial messages, or promotions for competing services;
- contains malware, scripts, or any code intended to harm our systems or other users; or
- violates any applicable law or regulation.
Photo and image standards. In addition to the above, any photo or image you upload must:
- have been taken by you, or you must hold the rights to use and publish it;
- not depict any identifiable person without their consent;
- not reproduce copyrighted artwork, labels designed by third parties, or other protected visual works beyond what is reasonably incidental to a bottle label photo;
- not contain offensive, obscene, or discriminatory visual content; and
- not infringe any third party's intellectual property, privacy, or personality rights.
By uploading a photo, you confirm that you hold all necessary rights to that image and that its publication on Millésime does not infringe any third party's rights. If a third party notifies us that an image you uploaded infringes their rights, we will remove it without prior notice to you and may suspend your account.
Language. Content posted in any public or followers-visible setting should be respectful and relevant to Champagne and the Millésime community. We are a community built around a shared passion — we expect users to treat each other and the producers on the platform with courtesy.
4.4 Visibility and public content
You control the visibility of your tasting notes and activity through the visibility settings (Public, Followers only, Private). Content set to Public is visible to all users and to anyone browsing the platform, including producer partners. You are solely responsible for the visibility level you choose. We are not responsible for the use of your public content by third parties who access it through the platform.
4.5 Feedback
If you submit feedback, suggestions, or ideas about Millésime — through any channel including in-app feedback, email, or direct conversation — you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, implement, and build upon that feedback without any obligation to compensate you or to keep it confidential.
5. Bottle submissions and community data
5.1 Submitting bottles
You may submit bottles that are missing from the Millésime database. Submitted bottles are reviewed by our moderation team before publication. By submitting a bottle, you confirm that the information you provide is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
5.2 Label photos
By uploading a label photo, you confirm that you took the photograph yourself or that you have the right to submit it, and you grant us the licence described in Section 4.2 to use it. Label photos on existing published bottles are submitted for review and will only go live after moderation approval.
5.3 Credits
Contributions to the community database — including bottle submissions, label photos, and tasting notes — may earn Cellar Credits under our credits programme. Credits are awarded at our discretion and have no monetary value. We reserve the right to modify the credits programme, including award amounts and tier thresholds, at any time.
6. Premium features and subscriptions
6.1 Free and Premium tiers
Millésime is free to use with access to core features. A Premium subscription unlocks additional features including extended cellar analytics, price history, and advanced search.
6.2 Subscription terms
Premium subscriptions are billed monthly or annually as chosen at the time of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled. You may cancel at any time through your account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
6.3 Refunds
We do not offer refunds for partial subscription periods except where required by applicable law.
6.4 Price changes
We will give you at least 30 days' notice before changing subscription prices. If you do not cancel before the price change takes effect, your continued use of the Premium subscription constitutes acceptance of the new price.
7. Producer partner content
Certified producer partners may publish posts, new release announcements, and event content on Millésime. This content is clearly attributed to the producing house. If you follow a producer, you may receive notifications about their content and new releases. You can manage notification preferences under Settings → Notifications.
Producer partner content is commercial in nature. We take reasonable steps to ensure producer content is accurate and not misleading, but we do not independently verify all claims made by producer partners.
8. Affiliate links and third-party purchases
Some bottle pages include a buy button linking to third-party wine retailers through our affiliate programme. Clicking a buy button takes you to the retailer's website. Any purchase you make is a contract between you and the retailer. We are not a party to that transaction and accept no liability for the retailer's products, pricing, availability, delivery, or conduct. The retailer's own terms and privacy policy apply once you leave Millésime.
We may earn a commission on purchases made through affiliate links. This does not affect the price you pay.
9. AI features
9.1 Bottle label scanning
Our bottle scan feature uses AI to extract information from label photos. Results are provided as a convenience and may not be accurate. You should verify technical information against official producer sources before relying on it.
9.2 AI Sommelier
The AI Sommelier is an AI assistant that can answer questions about Champagne, food pairing, and your cellar. It is provided for informational and entertainment purposes only. Responses are generated by AI and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. Nothing in an AI Sommelier response constitutes professional advice. We are not liable for any decision made in reliance on AI Sommelier output.
Do not share sensitive personal information (such as health, financial, or legal details) with the AI Sommelier.
10. Intellectual property
10.1 Our intellectual property
The Millésime name, wordmark, and logo are registered trademarks (DPMA reference 302026224528.5). The platform, its design, code, and original content are protected by copyright and other intellectual property rights. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our intellectual property without our prior written consent.
10.2 Third-party intellectual property
Bottle names, producer names, and Champagne appellations are subject to the intellectual property rights of their respective owners. We display this information for informational purposes under applicable law.
11. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- access or attempt to access any other user's account;
- scrape, crawl, or systematically extract data from Millésime by automated means without our express written permission;
- reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of our applications;
- use Millésime to send spam, unsolicited messages, or commercial solicitations to other users;
- attempt to circumvent any security or access control measure;
- use Millésime in any way that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair our systems; or
- use Millésime for any unlawful purpose.
12. Moderation and termination
12.1 Our right to moderate
We reserve the right to review, edit, remove, or restrict access to any content posted on Millésime that we reasonably believe violates these Terms, applicable law, or the spirit of the Millésime community. This includes tasting notes, comments, photos, bottle pop events, questions, profile information, and any other user-generated content.
Consequences of violations are applied at our discretion depending on the nature and severity of the violation:
- Content removal — we may remove individual pieces of content without notice and without affecting your account.
- Warning — for minor or first-time violations, we may notify you by email or in-app message and ask you to comply with these Terms.
- Temporary suspension — repeated or more serious violations may result in temporary suspension of your ability to post content or use certain features.
- Permanent termination — serious violations, including but not limited to posting illegal content, hate speech, or repeated infringement of third-party rights, may result in permanent termination of your account without notice or refund.
We are not obligated to monitor all content proactively, but we will act promptly on reports and notices we receive.
Reporting content. If you encounter content that you believe violates these Terms, please report it via the in-app report function or by emailing privacy@millesimeapp.com with a description and, where possible, a link to the content.
12.2 Your right to leave
You may delete your account at any time under Settings → Account → Delete account. Upon deletion, your personal data will be handled as described in our Privacy Policy.
12a. Notice and takedown
Reporting illegal or infringing content. If you believe any content on Millésime is illegal, infringes your intellectual property rights, or violates these Terms, you may submit a notice to privacy@millesimeapp.com including:
- your name and contact details;
- identification of the content and its location on the platform;
- the specific right or law you believe is being violated;
- a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised; and
- for intellectual property claims, confirmation that you are the rights holder or authorised to act on their behalf.
We will acknowledge your notice within 5 business days and take appropriate action, which may include removal of the content and notification to the user who posted it. Users whose content is removed will have the opportunity to submit a counter-notice if they believe the removal was in error.
We may disable the accounts of repeat infringers.
12.3 Effect of termination
Upon termination of your account for any reason, your licence to use Millésime ends immediately. Sections 4.2, 4.5, 10, 13, 14, 14a, and 15 survive termination.
13. Disclaimers
Millésime is provided "as is" and "as available." We make no warranties, express or implied, regarding the accuracy, completeness, reliability, or fitness for a particular purpose of any content on the platform. Tasting notes, ratings, and aroma descriptors are user-generated opinions and do not constitute professional wine assessments.
We do not guarantee that Millésime will be available without interruption or error. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time.
User interactions. Millésime is a community platform and users may interact with each other through comments, reactions, direct messages, and follows. We are not responsible for the conduct of any user on or off the platform. If you have a dispute with another user, you agree to resolve it directly with that user. We have no obligation to intervene in disputes between users, though we may do so at our discretion where a Terms violation is involved.
Service changes and discontinuation. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or permanently discontinue Millésime or any feature at any time. Where we discontinue the service entirely, we will provide at least 30 days' notice by email where reasonably practicable. We are not liable for any loss resulting from modification or discontinuation of the service.
No professional advice. Nothing on Millésime constitutes professional wine, investment, health, or financial advice. Tasting notes, ratings, and recommendations are community opinions only. Champagne is an alcoholic beverage — please drink responsibly and in accordance with the laws of your country.
Force majeure. We are not liable for any failure or delay in performance resulting from causes beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to internet outages, infrastructure failures, acts of God, or actions of third-party service providers.
Alcohol responsibility. Millésime is a platform for enthusiasts of Champagne and sparkling wine. Nothing on this platform encourages excessive consumption of alcohol. We remind all users to drink responsibly, in moderation, and in accordance with the laws and guidelines of their country of residence. If you are concerned about your relationship with alcohol, please seek support from a qualified health professional or contact a relevant support organisation in your country.
14. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use Millésime, including loss of data, loss of profits, or any other intangible loss.
Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of Millésime shall not exceed the total amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or €100, whichever is greater.
Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
14a. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Luca Rederer and Millésime from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from: (a) your use of Millésime; (b) Your Content; (c) your violation of these Terms; or (d) your violation of any third party's rights, including intellectual property rights or privacy rights.
15. Governing law and dispute resolution
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding its conflict-of-laws provisions and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG).
The parties shall first attempt to resolve any dispute amicably through good-faith negotiation. If a dispute cannot be resolved within 30 days of written notice, the courts of Stuttgart, Germany, shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
If you are a consumer resident in another EU member state, you may also have the right to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence under applicable EU consumer protection law.
The European Commission previously operated an online dispute resolution platform under Regulation (EU) 524/2013. That platform was discontinued in March 2023 and is no longer available. For disputes, please contact us directly at privacy@millesimeapp.com.
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding your use of Millésime and supersede all prior agreements, representations, and understandings relating to the same subject matter.
If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable by a competent court, the remaining provisions continue in full force. The invalid provision will be replaced by a valid one that most closely achieves the original intent.
16. Changes to these Terms
We will notify you of material changes to these Terms by email and via an in-app notice at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of Millésime after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not accept the changes, you must delete your account before they take effect.
