About
Champagne Charles Pougeoise traces to 1954, when Charles Pougeoise left his father Henri's estate to start his own venture with 53 ares of vines in Vertus. In 1976 he left the local cooperative to found his own independent brand and became a récoltant-manipulant, building his own production facility. The house supplied the Sorbonne, the Paris Faculty of Medicine, the Malakoff Faculty of Law, the Paris city hall, and several French embassies abroad. In 1991 Charles's daughter, Sandrine Herregods Pougeoise, took over the 10-hectare vineyard (exclusively in Vertus, a Premier Cru village in the Côte des Blancs) together with her husband, continuing the house style; the estate has since built an export presence in Belgium, Japan, and various embassies. The vineyard is planted mostly to Chardonnay with some Pinot Noir.
