About

Founded in Reims in 1785 by Florens-Louis Heidsieck, a German wool and wine trader who presented his champagne to Queen Marie-Antoinette in 1788 and later became patented supplier to European royalty. After his death in 1828 the house passed through his nephew Henri-Louis Walbaum and brother-in-law Auguste Heidsieck, becoming Heidsieck & Co Monopole. The house is known for two historic shipwreck discoveries of its champagne - the Jönköping in the Baltic Sea (1998) and a cargo galley wreck yielding 200-year-old bottles (2010) - and for the Heidsieck & Co Monopole Fund, established in 2000 to support young chefs opening their own restaurants.
