About

Founded in Reims in 1729 by Nicolas Ruinart, inspired by his uncle Dom Thierry Ruinart, a Benedictine monk who had encountered the new sparkling "wine with bubbles" in Paris - the first documented Champagne house. Run since 1817 by the Ruinart de Brimont family line, the house stores its wines in crayères (chalk cellars) beneath Reims acquired in the mid-18th century, and draws chardonnay - its signature grape since 1947 - mainly from the historic Grand Cru vineyard of Sillery and the Premier Cru vineyard of Taissy.
