About

Champagne Vincent Mathieu is a family estate in Vert-Toulon (historically called Vert-la-Gravelle), between Épernay and Sézanne in the Côte des Blancs / Côte de Sézanne sector. Vincent's great-great-grandparents Albert and Albertine were already established there as winegrowers and farmers in the early 1900s. His grandparents Marc and Odette took over the farm in 1949 and began developing the vineyard, commercializing the estate's first Champagne bottles. His parents Claude and Annick gradually took over from 1980, expanding further and also inheriting part of the property of great-great-grandparents Alfred and Berthe, themselves vigneron-manipulants in Verzy in the early 20th century. Vincent joined the estate in 2002 as the fourth generation, focused on more environmentally responsible viticulture and obtaining sustainability certifications. The 2.90-hectare vineyard is planted with all three Champagne grape varieties (Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and a dominant proportion of Chardonnay) on chalk soil, farmed largely by hand.
